Officially started the restoration today. Tub is read for removal and I plan on starting with body work next month. I always find everyone's builds interesting so I will post pics as I go. I was lucky enough to find some unused 300 Winchester mags under the gas tank. I am pretty sure they were not a factory option, but I could be wrong. On the downside, my Meyers top fell and scratched my HD Deuce paint. Guess I will have to repaint it this winter too. Darn.

Let it begin? It looks like you should be putting the fenders and w/s back on and call it good... What's the matter with it?

Thought I would breath some new life into this thread. I started with a '66 CJ5 w/ Dauntless shown below. I plan on painting the Jeep Empire Blue Poly and the Meyers top and Wheels white. Before dissassembly I got a chance to play with the rig for a couple of months after I had rebuilt the Dana 18 and the Rear 44.

I am already 30% through this restore and am finally gettign around to posting some pics. I will keep posting as I progress. I would not have made it this far if it weren't for the knowledge of all of the people who frequent EearlyCJ5.com. Thanks again for all of your continued help.:beer:

Sent out engine to local performance shop and they did a factory rebuild (slight mods) of the Dauntless including repaint and it turned out AWESOME. If it runs 1/2 as good as it looks we'll be in great shape.

After skimming all threads related to the original Dauntless color, I lost patience and decided to have the motor painted the same as the exterior of the Jeep, Empire Blue Poly. The slight metallic looks great on the motor.

The front clip and the tailgate along with a majority of the Jeep were rust-free. The tub, however, succumbed to some engineers bright idea of using wood as support within the hat channels. Therefore, I am planning on replacing the spare-tire area sheet metal, both floors, and both floor supports along with filling in all unused holes created by PO(s). Got all of the sheet metal from Classic Enterprises and could not be happier with the fitment.

Looking good Ben. I like your color choice for the engine. Body work is where my 66 stalled. been picking at it here and there. Keep up the good work.

I don't mind getting my hands dirty or trying new things, but I'm about to start waiving the white-flag on the body work. Through what I have done so far, I have gained a new appreciation for those who do it for a living. It definately takes a special touch to have things turn out great in the end.
