Part of the aftermath of hubby's accident last year is that he's got some serious limitations on how well his legs work. We're probably going to need step tubes (steps, etc) for our '74 CJ6.

Does anyone have a source for aftermarket, rather than custom-crafted, step tubes? My fingers are nearly falling off from all the msn searches!

(Also... does anyone have any good, reliable, not so expensive sources for Jeep clothing? He's got enough Harley shirts to choke a large rhino! Well, now that the Harley has met it's fate, it's time to start building his Jeep-tee collection!)

    Many thanks!

Unfortunately you will probably not find a set for the CJ6 that is not custom made. You probably could get a set from a CJ5 and make them work. but they will be much shorter.

Agree with Dan on this. NO cj6 step tubes made. Have to get some made. Or buy a welder and make some yourself. Everyone needs a welder.

And for Jeep swag, ebay seems to be the best place I've found.

IF you are interested, I have a set of CJ-5 step tubes/nerf bars, or whatever you may call them that you can have. Nobody on Craig's list in Atlanta wanted them. Shipping will be the only issue. I had a roll bar shipped to me for 23 bucks by FedEx Ground. With the way they calculate, these shouldn't be too expensive. If you're interested, they are yours.

Here are a few pictures of mine. They are quite nice, if that's what you want. I grew up without them, so I keep getting my foot hung on them when I get out (I forget they are there).

Yup, that's us. Just far enough outside of Atlantic City to stay away from the tourists on the weekend, but still close enough to have to deal with the traffic!

Tim, I kinda like the factory steps. Are they very heavy duty or just stamped out? I have some later cj steps but they seem very thin and not very durable.

Any idea where I can get a set?

Those steps were banged out with every early or intermediate CJ that was delivered, AFAIK. Back in the day, you could hardly give them away - they are very vulnerable to rock damage. Most owners took them off and threw them away. At the dealer I worked at, there was a pile of them out back, in the junk yard.

They are stamped steel. Not sure what you would call heavy-duty. They are plenty strong to support people, but don't stand up to trail obstacles at all.

I'm sure that if you advertised here on the WTB or on WillysTech you could find some. They have a very limited market.

Tim: Thanks for suggesting a return visit to the original style steps. They look like they would be best suited to serve my physical needs. Thanks!

Jayhawkclint: Thank you very much for the link. That link shows steps that would be perfect.

This is an open question for anyone: Does anyone have any experience with these steps (from the link that "jayhawkclint" provided)? Sadly, I have a unique set of requirements. How much weight would these steps safely handle? How slippery might these steps be under normal conditions? I weight about 225 lbs and I am recovering from severe injuries resulting from a severe MVA in May '07. I started walking in August '07 after being put back together, but my lower body and legs are still unsteady and I need sure footing. Can anybody provide input with respect to my personal concerns?

    Thanks,
    Ed

the original steps om my 6 held up fine to my...cough cough 280-300 lb frame .....they can be slick if wet, but that can be solved with abrasive tape (I've done that on my tube sliders) or special application paint.
Post up a wanted to buy in the classified's, I'll bet you turn up a pair
