I put some new exhaust bolts on tonight. I noticed the front most bolt leaks coolant out of it. Now I know why the previous owner put sealant on the bolt shaft. I had to use a extra long bolt to get it to thread. I think the hole is wiped out toward the front but is clean toward the back. I hope the guy didn't drill clear through to the water jacket or something like that.

Is this normal? I used anit-seize on the rest of the bolts and they seem fine.

Man, getting this old beastie up and going is allot of work but it's fun. Lot's of little surprises to deal with.

I presume that you are working on a F-head? Yes front bolt hole goes into the water jacket. So does the rear one. Been awhile since I have had mine apart. Don't remember if there are other ones. I used studs and put sealer on all the studs going into the block.
    Good luck :flag:

X2. A bolt may work but there is supposed to be a stud in there.
