Sorry if this has been posted before but my searh is not working right for some reason. I need to know if there is any directions online to help aid me in the removal of my Dana 18 Transfer and t-14 Trans from my 71 jeep. I am about to order a rebuilt one from Herm and need to do this in a weekend cause this is my only car for getting to and from work. Thanks for the help and support!!!

remove floorboards and trans shift tower/shift lever.
    remove transfer case linkage/lever.
loosen + remove speedo cable at transfer case.
    disconnect clutch linkage
    disconnect parking brake linkage.
loosen and remove driveshafts at transfer case.
    support under engine oil pan.
support with floor jack under trans crossmember (some folks remove the skid plate for easier access to the shafts.
    loosen trans to bellhousing bolts.
slide back till front input shaft clears.
lower trans-t.case as an assembly. (I find it's easier as an assembly; to each their own)
remove transfer case back cover, gear and nut: only if small hole transfer case.
if large hole, unbolt trans from transfer case and seperate.

Thank you thats what i thought but i did not know!!! A few more ?s

    1. Is there any parts that i need to worry about "falling" or moving or anything?

    2. There is some sort of adapter betwee the bell housing and trans. Do i remove the trans from the adapter or do i remove the trans/ transfer/ adapter all together?

    3. Is there seals between the bellhousing/ adapter and trans... or between the trans and transfer case?

    THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The throwout bearing could fall into the bell. No big deal, just make sure you fit it back into the clip on the fork before reassembly. If you don't know the age/ condition of your clutch, you might as well replace it now, IMO.
No gaskets or seals between trans./ adapter/ bell.
There is a gasket between the trans and transfer case.
Unbolt the adapter from the bell.
Swap it to the new trans before re assembly.
    HTH.

Having gone through this process recently I'd recommend . . .

FIRST THING! Get the thing steam cleaned or at least spend a few $$$ at the local car wash spraying the gunk off!

Spray all your fasteners with PB Blaster (or your favorite equivalent) daily for a few days so things come apart easier.

Get 4 tall jack stands (I used the big 12 ton 'uns from Harbor Freight that are on sale every now and then for $30/ea).

Borrow / Rent / Buy a transmission jack. I got one of the ones that fit into a floor jack. I bought one off EBay for $24.

Plan ahead and order parts that you'll want to replace or up grade. The bushings on my Bell crank were completely worn out, I replaced the miss matched hardware with all new grade 8 stuff, etc.

Check (and you'll likely want to replace) your clutch / flywheel / pilot bushing / U bolts / etc.

I had no problem removing the trans and t-case together. I used silicone between trans and bell housing and t-case.

    Good luck . . .

Post up some of those pictures!

Your setup has been changed or you have a 70 titled as a 71, the 71 had a 1 piece bellhousing with the adapter cast in not bolted on.

Well it was a good time to get the trans in and out. HERM provided a great product and after it is all together it runs like a new sports car. Squels tires now and can chirp tires swithing gears. IT was a blast to drive it again.
    THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE HELP!!!!!
