new top

i'm considering stepping back into a 73. anyone know where the best place to buy a rag top is? all the hardware is present but fabric is shot. thanks, dpoug

 

I think the only place still making them is Bestop. You may have to check if your hardware will work with their skins.

 

If you have the old top, a local upholstery shop could make you a new one using th old one as a pattern. Places that make tops and covers for boats are said to be a good source. Don't know how cost-effective it will be though ... may be cheaper just to buy a complete new top.

 

yes i do think it is the original top. so i highly doubt bestop's would fit over my hardware. still, need a top whenever i get te $$$.....so it might have to be bestop. jeep was last on the road in 88. it's a one owner jeep. i'll have to see if i bring it home but everything is there and i don't think there is a nonoriginal part on it. floors are rough, motor is siezed-258. fenders are shot from the owner sliding into them in the winter. but i have fenders from an 81 cj7 for it. overall the body and frame are decent. doesn't seem to have any bondo in it. so if i do get it, it would be a while until its back on the road. but i need a replacement for my 81 and i could prolly pick this one up for a couple hundred. thanks, doug

 

went back over today. motors not locked up turns freely by hand. pass floor pan shot but hat channels there driver floor need a small patch and rear floor rusted thru but easy fix. 61000 miles and asking price is $200 i'll probably snatch it up if a buddy is next in line

 

Shoot, the tub is worth more than $200.

 

I might be interested in the hardware if you get it. I have a Whitco top that I bought for my old jeep long ago. All I need to do is clear the windows and add original bows and rods.

 

got her home yesterday. changed oil filter points ect and she fired right up.

 

Can I have your front seats?

 

not at this time. maybe if i find replacements.
