cj potato chips

so I found a decent 66 cj down the road for 500. I have a really nice 83 that I had been restoring. so like potato chips I'm thinking you need more than one. just have to decide what I'd use it for and where I'd put it. I kind of assume this group will convince me to buy it, but the arguments can't hurt for or against it.

If any ones board today what is puplic opinion. Pull the little cj5 home and restore it,(no time really and no need for it) or let it sit and hope the guy does not send it to the scrap yard.

Its a 66 Cj5 with plow decent frame and f134. Body is fair windshield is gone. Personally $500 seems perfectly fair for a running driving cj.

my question is more about what do I do with it? They are not so road friendly. (no overdrive and 5.X gears)

i would jump on it..if it runs and drives...title on no title it's worth $500 bucks
if nothing else you could part it out and probably double your money..
or restore it someday..

Who says the f-134 in front of 5.38 gears isn't road friendly? I drive mine everywhere, (slower than I would like sometimes though, I will get an O.D. some day)......oh yeah: I vote buy it!

 

I'm still undecided, but there is a guy who is supposed to look at it sunday. If its still there the owner will be calling me monday.

I have the tools and skills to rebuild it easily. Its actually not in bad shape and I own a "hobbie" shop that would make most professional garrages jealous.

I still don't know when I'll have time to work on it or what I'll do with it. As said above the 83 looks and acts like the 66 to everyone outside of this group, and its more road friendly not to mention its 90 % perfect.

If it follows me home next week I'll keep everyone updated on the progress.

Put the money in the bank. If you aren't ready to work on it and don't have a place to store it why would you spend anything on it? If it's a smoking deal then buy it and sell it for $600 to all of the people who are urging you to part with your money. Then put $600 in the bank. Surely an extra $100 wouldn't cool their wild enthusiasm for an early CJ, right?

Don't ask other people how to spend your money. Keep your $500, post a picture of it and say you bought it, and everyone will be happy. Make up a story once in a while about how the front and rear Dana 60 is so easy to install you can't believe you waited so long. And that a $7K crate 401 really isn't such a bad deal when you factor in your winnings at the mud drags.

I'd say buy it. But then again, I have one jeep and two other jeep parts piles in the driveway. What do I know about restraint?

But I'd buy it, fixt it up and sell it. Or keep it.

 

it's our solemn sworn duty to save such lost JEEPs from the scrap pile. It's also a great way to make money to get the parts you need for your projects, trade for said parts, help other JEEP owners with their projects. Now, go out and save that JEEP.

 

If I was your mother I'd tell you to move out of my basement and tow your "projects" with you.
