Hi there, I've been looking for a replacement fuel filler hose and filler vent hose for my 73 cj5. I have found several places where you can buy the filler hose, but not the vent hose, any ideas on where I could get one?

Do you have any of the old hose left? The usual strategy is to make a metal pipe the shape you need from copper pipe and fittings. For larger hoses, you can ask a muffler shop to bend the shape you need. Use short sections of straight hose and clamps to join the pipe to the tank and bulkhead fitting.

I thought that there was somebody out there that sells the vent hose, but I can't point you toward them. It was a site that also sells the replacement tanks.

Yes, I have both complete hoses left. The reason I'm wanting to replace them is because of dry rot, and the vent hose has a slit in it that leaks gas when the tank is over 3/4 full. I hadn't thought of using metal pipe, but it seems that rubber would work better because of the body/frame flexing. I think I may have found a local place that builds rubber hoses, so I'll probably be giving them a call. As far as seeing vent hoses on the internet I have as well, but just for 76 and newer. It seems to me as many of these jeeps that were made, why are there not more availability of new or used parts out there?

Well, I'm not sure that's true. The '75 production figures are here:
http://www.goldenhawkjeep.com/cj identification.html - 30,000 per year isn't very many. Probably close to 100,000 total produced.

Try a marine supply house. Kendor Marine in Milwaukee might have what you need.

Wow Tim, I didn't realize there was only that many made, I imagine there were even less 73's made. Guess that explains why you don't see many on the road.
