will a '84 brake booster (not sure what model donor) fit my '74 CJ-5?
I am looking at adding power brakes since this is now my DD (everything else is broken...:()
What mods will be required? since I'm sure the donor had disc brakes, will I need to change the Prop. valve? I will be using the stock drum master cyl.
I will be getting all the brackets and misc. with the booster.

Certainly it is not a direct replacement. I don't know of any source for a new, factory replacement booster - the only option for someone with a '72-75 that already has power brakes is to have their existing booster rebuilt at a shop that does boosters. AFAIK.

I'd suggest you use a hot rod booster from Summit or Jegs and adapt it. Either that or go hydroboost - but you'd still have to adapt it. No easy options, sorry.

Pirate Jack on Ebay (the store front for MBC brakes, I think that's the name) has complete booster/master/bracket kits for a reasonable price (compared to other aftermarket kits.) On gravel I lock up my 35's barely touching the brake pedal. On pavement it stops hard, it takes some getting used to. It's nice :) Be sure to study up on proportioning and residual valves if you go this route. And as Tim noted, it's not a simple bolt on, you need to do some minor fab to make a solid installation.

A buddy at Napa Parts says 71-72 Wagoneer is closest match for my 73 Cj5 So far he's not lead me astray

The '71-73 Wagoneer has the same 11" brakes as the CJ, so you'd expect the parts to be similar. You could probably get the booster and MC for a Wagoneer, but the Wagoneer booster might be larger in diameter than the CJ booster (it is a heavier vehicle, and could use more boost). You would also need to figure out how to mount the booster to the firewall, and fit the pedal rod to the booster. IIRC the PB CJ has some kind of spacer wedges or mount for the booster, which would not come with any replacement booster. The firewall penetration is also different, again IIRC.

I have the power setup from an ~83-ish CJ7. I had the system in my CJ5, not sure yet if it's going in the 6.

Here's what it looked like in the 5:

That booster mounting is different from the intermediate CJs. The intermediate booster goes close against the firewall, similar to the Wagoneer booster. There is still some kind of spacer between the firewall and the booster, but not like the later style seen in Mike's post.

I got a master cyl and booster from a 81 Scrambler off E-Bay, It was close but required some fitment, if I recall the brake lines are reversed, front and rear, the brake lines were a different size and I had to drill mounting holes on the firewall but happy with the results.

so there is not a power brake option for the intermediate CJs? at least factory style fitment?
I want to convert it, but its very difficult without all my tools and stuff down here (its all in storage 2K miles away..).
the CJ has become my DD for the while, and I would really like a little more braking power (disc conversion not an option right now...)

Actually, thinking about it, I dont give a rat's ...UUhhh...behind, if its factory correct mounting. Heck this Jeep has its share of mods done already, with more in the 'dream' stage right now...I need an idea for one that will fit without real major mods, which I am 'un-tooled' for right now.
Looks like a mid-80's one might work for me?? I just need all the mounting bracketry off the donor? (drill and hand tools I have)
