Looking for flares for my "new" cj5 (this is my first jeep). All of the aftermarkets seem to run above $300, while the "factory replacement" flares run about $70-80 for the set. Is there that big of a quality difference? Thanks.

Why do you want to replace the flares. Are they missing or damaged?

Thats a good question ,, I'm flareless too ,,and think they might of been an option type of thang !. I keep going back and forth if i want flares or not. Most of the time i think the jeeps look better without flares.
But the old saying is you get what you pay for !!! the 70 dollar ones look good for the stock apearance !
Dr. TimGR will be here shortly and will clear it up... he always does !

I prefer w/o as well, sometimes they actually serve a purpose (either functionally or legally) by covering wider tires.

My 6 came with the newer style flares - so all the holes were drilled. I found some of the old school style flares that don't have the same visual impact to the Jeep and am happier with them.

Jeep started with the rubber flares (on the Renegades?), which you should be able to get in bulk at a parts store that caters to big trucks. It's a stock item - we sold them for a while at the dealership - comes in a roll in a big carboard box. These were pretty much replaced by the cast plastic flares that came a few years later (like what Mike shows on his site, with the light indents).

Not sure what the "modern" flares are - maybe you could post a link? I'd imagine they are like the bolt-on TJ flares.

The stock looking plastic flares = cheeper,,, the tougher off-road flares = more bucks, I quess it comes down to what your using your jeep for,, and personell taste. I'm thinking now about those "old school " flares now those are sweet looking !
