rear gears.

    I pulled my diff cover today on my 71 CJ5 with Dana 44 rear axle. I am just wondering if you can tell me the ratio of gears i have by the numbers stamped on the ring gear. they are.....

    1 15 70 dana 18525 a3d43 44-9

    Score. 4.88s are good. That's the optional gear ratio, and very desirable.

    If you want better mileage, get a Warn/Saturn overdrive. Keep the 4.88:1 gears!

    <edit> BTW - not just the rear axle. The front axle has to be the same ratio. It's enough just to say "axle ratio." :)

    I'd guess that 1 15 70 is the date of production, and the rest of the numbers are Dana part numbers or production numbers.

    SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I already have the Warn OD. I have gotten a kick *** jeep for a damn good price then.

    Yup - I run the 4.88s and OD - I think it's the best overall combo.
