I'm looking for opinions on a tire/wheel combo. I currently have 33-10.50's swampers and all of the tire is in the wheel well. The jeep kinda looks skinny and tall, but that is what it came with from the PO. I was thinking of a lslightly shorter tire and offset wheel to push the tires out a little for stability and driveability. It has a f134. This will be a daily driver also. Any thoughts?:?

33-10.5 are wide!:) rember the stock tires where about 6" wide;) Thats the size tire I'm going to run on my cj6, I run 32-10.5's on my 3b. I like a tall skinny tire, If I could find a 9" or 9.5 x 33 radial I'd run them.

:iagree: 10" tires are wide for these Jeeps.

The skinnier tires will make the Jeep handle better and be more responsive. This is an issue with tall tires and an F-head.

    don't fear the tire/wheel combos...
fear the short wheelbase, brakes and steering.
always have a plan or escape route whille watching ahead of you while driving.

I really like my 36" X 12.50 Super Swampers on 15" X 7" steel wheels - fairly stable and predictable - they seem to tuck in very well too.......

the stock 7.00x16 is the same height as a 32x11.50 bfg, the height is what kills the power, the width is what kills the driver:rofl: power steering, yep i got it, all the power i can mjuster out of my arms:D the wider tires work well as far as flotation"swampy areas, the skinny tires give the traction needed for rocky trail riding or hard dirt, hope this helps ya out:beer:

I run 31x9.5 Super Swampers on mine on steel wheels 15". I would have perferred 16" rims with Swampers but got impatient.

Width has extra rolling resistance as well. You think the engine doesn't work that much harder to turn wider tires as you do without power steering?

Running 31"x10.5" on 15" rims on cj5 69 V6. It was run mostly on sand by the PO. Feels a little squirrely around 60mph and over. Haven't figured out if it's the wheel base or the wider tires on stock width. only 1" lift.

May go smaller when I finally get new tires.

Thank you all for very good info. I may just drive it for a bit and see what it is like. Brakes are no prob. I did a front disc conversion and it has 10in on back. all new stuff. The steering is still the old Ross but tight as a whiskey barrel. I know these rigs aren't made to go fast and feel like a new SS Impala, so i'll take her easy at first till im used to her. I guy down the road has a set of the old Mag style Mickey Thompson wheels I may buy. I live the old nostalgic look.

I'm looking to put BFG AT 9.5 X 33 on 15 X 8 on my otherwise stock 61 CJ-5. The 7.5 X 16's on it now rub badly at full lock and measure 32". Am I asking for trouble running this size tire on a stock CJ-5?

Rub where? The springs? If so just adjust the steering stops. Admittedly the already poor turning radius of the D27 will be decreased but you won't rub.
