Hey all. Thanks for the welcome to the group. Lots of good info floating around in here. I promise before too long I will post some pics. When I bought this jeep the starter was toast. It has the ol' f 134. After reading the posts here, everyone has decided that rebuilding the starter is the best bet. I wanted to "modernize" this f 134 with a updated, readily available starter. I found a Toyota Landcruiser starter (64-83 4.2) is a perfect match. Just picked it up a minute ago from O'reilly for $69. Nose piece is perfect, same number of teeth etc. I hope this isn't a re-post, if so, here it is again. Soooo, after work guess what i'm gonna do? Hee Hee.

The jeep runs!!!! whooo hooooo!!! Im glad i found the web site about the starter interchange. I do have a question for you all, there is no pcv anywhere in this thing. I have looked at the threads in here, but I cannot find even where it should (was) be. Looks as if it never had one. Also, what are the valve lash settings for the f134? This jeep thing is very exciting!!!!

The cup piece is separate. I abandoned my oem pcv and put a modern Fram pcv in the intake manifold with hose running to the cup piece fitting.

Thanks for the starter info ... don't know when I'll need it but I archived it :)

My tappet cover doesn'y even have a hole in it for the cup piece. I'm gonna weld a fitting onto it and do some more modernfication.

When my starter started failing to the point that it worked once in a long while I decided to take it apart and it was full of water inside. I drained the water cleaned the inside as well as brushes and it is as good as new.

My starter was TOAST. Someone let the smoke out of it. The armature is black and...well, TOAST!!! The landcruiser starter works perfect.
