hello all, i have been a member here for a while, but havent had a cj5 in a long time. i just picked up a 72 cj5 and i am gonna put my 401/t18 in it. are the frame horns (frame side engine mounts) the same as the ones in a later (76 to 82) cj, or are they totally different? thanks! -justin

Don't know specifically, but very likely different. The frames are different, thus the engine mount towers should be different.

Almost everything is different pre/post the 1976 model year.

    I guess your '72 has a 232 or 258?

i am not sure, its a NOS frame, never been under a jeep. it was in storage since the 70's i assume, i got it and an early 4wdh glass body with the 72 i bought, the 72 has nothing in it right now as far as engine frame horns

If the frame currently has nothing you could always look into the M.O.R.E mounts. I don't think you will find a beefier mount and you will probably need all the beef you can find with a 401.

I'm pretty jealous of the 401, just not of the gas mileage.

    Good luck

i may go that route, i was looking at the M.O.R.Es i am hoping that with the 2.73 gears and 33" tires i will get decent gas mileage... even keeping a good bit of crazy power. i think if i do a t18 and a d300 case with a 4 to 1 kit, it may just be perfect on and off road

Unless you have swapped out the gears in you 44 and 30 I think you have 3.73's. I think those and/or 4.27's were optional.

I looked into the MORE stuff when I was going to do a 360 swap into my Jeep. I should never have torn the 360 apart:)

Still sounds like a lot of fun.

well... i am shooting for an interesting combo with this jeep... i have a d44 rear out of an 88 wagoneer with 2.72 gears. i am putting a widetrack 30 front in it. then i am going with 2.5" lift YJ springs... i am not familliar with your forums, would it be okay to do a build thread?

i think i attatched a photo of my cj7, its my street legal wheeler. i built it pretty extreme and i have a lot of fun in the very tough rocks, i dont want to get rid of it or replace it, but the local trails are not as much of a challenge with it anymore, plus its not something to hop in and go for a ride with the price of tires, fuel etc. i miss the way it was with a 2.5 lift and a hot lil v8, it was like a sports car on the road and a blast on any trail. thats what i want with the cj-5... so with that being said, maybe i'll start a build thread

heres the link to my cj7 pic, the pic is too big for this site:

well, my search for engine mounts continues... i have a set of 76 and up v8 mounts, but the hole spacing is different on the frame (the 6 holes drilled in the frame). the newer style ones are about .025" shorter on the center to center than the ones on the frame. i eyed them up with the ones on my uncles 72, and they look the same other than the hole spacing.
