From what I found when I wrote the Renegade article it may have been American Racing (looking at the article footnotes).

They sure look like the old Ansen Sprints.

If they weren't American Racing, they looked exactly the same.

The Renegade rim from the 1974 model is definitely not American racing.
I have several sets of original rims for the '74, and also have several American racing wheels, one with the original tire. I think this came from earlier models.
The outer rim on the Renegade rim is different from American racing, American racing wheel has the name on the inside. The Renegade rim is stampte "Forged" on the inside.
I purchased 3 take-offs (Renegade rims) in 1975 for $75 each, and had to buy one from parts to complete the set. The list from AMC parts at that time was $128.00.
Don't know who made them, but at the time heard, whether right or wrong, that they were made in England. A nice story, but who knows.
