D44 Axle Question

    The Timken bearing number should be on the face of the bearing. You can remove it with a bearing separator and a press. Don't beat on the splines or you'll seriously regret it. If you get it off intact and theres no number it will be a standard sized bearing that can be found at most NAPA's.

    First item is the seal. Second item is the bearing. Third item is the retainer. You buy the bearing and the retainer as a kit. The seal and bearing slide on and the retainer is pressed on. You can break the retainer. It's shown in any Jeep manual from the era - shown HERE http://trailforge.com/TSM/Section_10.pdf

    The best approach IMO is to take the axle to a parts store with a shop, buy the parts and have them press on the new bearing, retainer and seal for you. There are other hack approaches, but using a press (or special puller) is the conventional/recommended way.
