Does anyone know where to find a locking gas cap for a '69 CJ5. I tried Napa and was told it does not exist. with gas jumping from 3.99 to 4.07 here in Ashland OR, I would like to make it a little harder for thieves

In truth I would not waste my money.
I takes less than 10 seconds to pop a locking gas cap off.

I would agree, locks only keep out honest people. I think people would be targeting larger gas tanks...say a boat, full size trucks, ect. I know my buddies boat holds 70 gallons. I also feel that if they couldn't get your gas chances would be they would do other damage to the vehicle.

I heard of a new one they are doing in Minnesota, stealing license plates, filling up and driving off, then your tag is reported and the police will contact you.

My 'Sixty has been hit twice in the last year for gas. It'll only get worse. 10 gallons is 10 gallons.( and at $3.60 a gallon that adds up.) I want a locking cap.

I may go out though and get something like a tri-fold gate latch an put that on there to secure the cap down.

Any one have a better solution?

There's a Defender 110 series here in town that has a latch and padlock on the gas cap, sorta like what you might use on a shed.

The latch is secured to the body and the cap is like mine with two tabs sticking up so that you can grasp it and twist to remove. The latch fits over those and padlock goes through one.

That might slow someone down enough to make them move on. I know I've considered it, 15 gal. tank...

Truck is 32 gal. and we drive it infrequently too...

Thinking about fabbing up a locking door over my cap. Won't look stock, or original, but should keep the cap and gas in the tank where they belong.

    $4.15 a gallon! Hiway Robbery!

They are trying for $5.00 a gallon by the end of summer.

The driver door on my hardtop covers the gas cap, so when the doors are closed and locked, the gas cap is inaccessible. I think it is a Koenig top, but I'm not sure. It does look a little strange to have to open the driver's door to fill up...

Not any stranger than dropping the taillight or rear license plate or opening the trunk in the front of the '65 and before Beetles.

That's an advantage of the under-seat tank ... the bottom is covered by the floor pan. It would be fairly easy to armor the plumbing on the way to the engine.

Stant used to make one, and still makes a standard cap, #10625. Couldn't find a listing for a locking cap.

I'd suggest you call a few of the regular Jeep parts suppliers on Tuesday - Krage, Turner, etc.

best way I have found for keeping them from stealing the gas from the CJ, disassemble it and hide parts all over the yard.... they'll be so tired by the time they find the gas tank they'll forget why they were looking for it.:)

I hide mine in my room. They got to get through my dog and me to get to my tank. Then again when they find it, the tank will be empty R)
