My 80 had bolts in the floor and wheel wells for the seat belts. Thay are large phillips head bolts.

I wouldn't run shoulder harnesses on a bench seat. The shoulder belts need to contact the shoulder's at a certain angle to hold the occupant in place properly. Unfortunately most bench seats, especially Jeep rear seats, don't allow this to happen. If the shoulder belts don't hit the occupant correctly they can actually be hurt worse that if they weren't wearing shoulder harnesses at all in the event of an accident. I think I remember seeing someone who manufactures a rear bench type seat that is high enough and has belt openings in the back. I'd check out the aftermarket seat suppliers for one like Beard, Corbeau, etc. For lap belts I bolted the belts to the same location the seat is bolted to with flat plates under the floor to keep the bolts from pulling through. Huh....but what about the rear bench seat/shoulder belt arrangement from a YJ/TJ? That's pretty much what I've replicated in SSDutch.

I use a long single lap belt for my rear.
but I hardly have anyone in the rear anymore..
the lap belt holds you down, the present day shoulder belts keep you from going forward.
I think Nick was refering to the 4 point competition harness belts.

Just buy a harness you like from Jegs or someone. But if you attach a shoulder harness, the rear attachment point, or at least a bar that the belt goes around behind the occupant needs to be very close to shoulder height (I believe within 4 inches down). I believe the issue is that if the mounting point is too low, in a foward impact, as the person moves foward the belt then pulls down and can compress the spine resulting in an injury. There is good information on this from the NHRA. You can probably go to a website and look up the rules for their safety harnesses, and learn all the exact info.

That being said, I don't believe there is any good way to protect rear seated passengers in a jeep. But I understand what you mean, I will be putting a seat back in my jeep this summer for the kids to ride in. Not for off-roading, but for short fun trips on road. Ice cream trips, drive-in etc.
