    Hi
I am in the process of having my 63 CJ5 restored .
I will be keeping as orginal and stock as possible.

Was a roll bar ( cage ) a stock item?
I am looking at pics of early CJs in the forum and I dont think it was.

I will not be doing any "rock climbing" but I will be driving my wife and 2 young kids around the local village. I am not sure whether I should keep it on?

Your thoughts and comments would be welcome

We've covered this several times. You are correct in what you found.

A "sport" bar was never offered from the factory until the Renegade I/II and thereafter.

It may not have been stock, but I would keep it on. The safety it provides is worth much more than any period correctness.

Also, being able to use a bikini top is a nice option as well.

I know, it is common sense to keep it on.

Just wondering how many fatalities occurred on the early military and cj's without rollbars.
The wheel base is not all that wide and the center of gravity is not the lowest so surely these things have rolled before.

Wheelbase isn't long, wheelbase is length between the front and rear hubs, not width of the vehicle.

I know what you meant, but I see it commonly misused here and elsewhere. Didn't mean to offend you. Sorry if I did.

I have a fender mount bar in my 63 CJ5 that came out of a 77 CJ7 but I'm going to switch to a 71-75 bar because I like the look better.

Even if the roll bar was not a factory option, most every Jeep that was sold in that era got one. Same with locking hubs. No one will fault you if you leave it on.
