    Howdy,

Is there a way to add some range to the motion of the e-brake pedal? Mine only moves a little bit, just enough evidently to lock (it does work and hold). I was looking under the vehicle and everything seems tight but I can't see into the rear brake drums to see if there is an adjustment in there. Another place for possible adjustment might be the location of the equalizer bar, but would that create a floppy cable? I just think this is all too tight might work better with some space to move. What do you folks think?

    thanks for the help.

For what its worth my 74 has what appears to be 2inches of push on the pedal before it wont go in any further.(if I was more mathematicly inclined I would give you degrees). It works just fine. I dont know how it was new 34 years ago but if it ain't broke....

I used the equalizer bar to adjust mine. I have longer travel.. I should have left it alone. I suggest you keep the travel where it is

I agree, "If it ain't broke?"

There should also be a mount just before the equalizer that the cable runs through. This should keep it from moving to much if you do decide to adjust it.

As I recall, there is a spring around the end of each cable that locks in to the brake arm on the rear backing plate. Compression of this spring would give you a soft parking brake pedal feel. The spring should also be strong enough to keep the cable from sagging. The equalizer is another location where slack would be adjusted.

Just happened to notice this on another board ...

That spring is compressed by the eBrake lever, and takes the slack out of the cable.

Thanks for the responses. When the rain stops here in PDX I'll take a look and see what I can do. Right now I really have to push hard and it just barely causes the brakes to grab. I don't feel confident the ebrake is working correcly. Thanks again. Nev

Wow, you have an E brake????

Haven't had one since we put the glass body on. Nowhere to mount without drilling through the body.

I agree with the "if it aint broke" theroy.

Maybe one of your cables is seized. That happened to me and I got the same symptoms you have. After I replaced the seized cable, I got normal pedal travel and a better holding brake.

My e-brake is just completely locked up. I don't even know if I'll ever fix it as it the brake pedal and assembly are beat up pretty bad. I have other things on my Jeep to do list before that ;)

Thanks all, I think I'll adjust as little as needed to get a bit more pedal movement, just so it will lock the brakes better, I don't trust it the way it is. I'm sure the cable need some lube, haven't looked at the brakes yet, just got the jeep not too long ago. I agree, lots of things to look at before the minor things.
