i just wanted to inform you all of an awesome find of mine...

so there is a walmart about a mile from my house, and i was there buying oil one day. as i was leaving the auto supply section, i saw some little lights. a pair of 55w h3 lights. you would most likely see these mounted on someones crappy racer civic or something. they were $15 so i thought they might make good rock lights. i mounted them on the bolt for the hood latch coming from the bottom of the front fenderwells. they work great. AWESOME light in a half circle or more from right at my tires to about 25ish ft out from vehicle. great for slow cruising at night and not needing to run my high power headlights or off road lights.
i highly reccomend for anyone who does any night wheeling.

headlights. i used to have some over powered headlights (90w low beam/130w high beam) supposed to be 'diamond white' color. they turned out blue. everyone told me how cool they looked, but when i was out at night, everything looked like shadows. i couldn't run dunes at night and rock crawling was just as hard. one bulb went out and i needed to replace them. kragen auto parts had a deal on a $50 pair of headlights, 'ultrastar silverstar'. now i would never want to pay $50 for a pair of headlight bulbs, but there was a $20 coupon, making them 30, just 10 more than a standard set of bulbs. when i first used them, i thought they were well worth the full price of $50.

just my 2 cents...i love wheeling at night, but it is hard to do with out proper lighting.

Great tip,Thanks for sharing. I also like to drive and four wheel at night :) but hate to turn on my headlights because they kind'a suck the fun out of driving under a nice full moon.
I have had a pothole or two sneak up on me while driving at night, Think I will give your solution a try, Something just bright enough to see the trail right in front of the tire when you look down there but not so bright that you cant ignore it...................Maybe some small amber marker lights under my winch right behind the front bumper, You would never know they were there.

I wonder how well it would work to undo the PO wiring at the light switch on my 55 and hook it up proper so it had parking lights and use those.............hmmm........another experiment R)

when i cut my fenders, i removed the amber side marker. i used this wire for my power to the rock lights. most of you probably wouldn't want to do this. my rig is trail only and trailered out so i did not mind. when i turn my running lights on, my rock lights are on. that is how i wanted it. so they are always on when headlights are on as well. however, i did put slide connectors on so that if i am on streets or whatever, and do not want them on, i just unplug them. probably a hasle for most of you, but i don't think i will ever really need them off, just put that there incase (i did unplug them when i flat-towed the jeep, but i won't be flat towing it anymore with these tires on it).

I bought a set of those last summer but never found a good place to mount them. The latch bolt is a great idea. Consider it stolen ;)

did i forget to mention that i put a patend on that mount idea?!

pay up on those royalties...or just toss me a beer on the trail:)

by the way, all you need is a couple 1/4x20 nuts with lock washers for that mount. LIGHT THAT TRAIL UP!

Haha funny you mentioned the lights because I have the EXACT same set in the same exact location on my jeep! I also bought a set of the round ones (same brand just the larger round ones) which I use in the front of the jeep to light forward. I have bought 2 round sets and 2 sets like you showed and have never had a problem with them. They go through mud, water and dirt like a champ and keep on tickin. well well worth the money and they even come with all the wires and a switch to boot!
