I just bought my first cj5 and of course there is a steering problem. I searched the site and found some posible answers, but i have a specific question. when i turn the wheel i have alot of play, the bell crank kind of twists on the shaft. The previous owner put a 2.5" lift and squeezed 33" tires on it. And i was wondering if that put to much of an angle on the tie rods. I was thinking of getting a new drag link setup and a bell crank repair kit. Any info would be great. BTW i will be going to 32" tires on 2.5" lift.

You basically need to get up under there and watch everything while you have someone move the wheel back and forth and you will see where the slop is. Mine turned out to mostly be in my draglink. So I bought a repair kit and that fixed alot of it. You may just be able to repair that and your bellcrank. But I would definitely get under there and have a look at everything so you know exactly what to buy.

    Good advice.

Note that on an old Jeep, it's possible (likely?) that everything that can be worn out, is. Common wear items are spring bushings, knuckle seals, king pin bearings, tie rod ends, bellcrank, steering box, drag link. Check the spindle bolts. you may not want to put a lot into Ross steering if you want to keep the big tires. Saginaw steering is a popular upgrade.
