Guys, looking for a source for a protective top to use on my 75 CJ5 during the spring, summer, autumn when I have totally removed the doors. This would be used when the jeep is parked to prevent rain from blowing in sideways when a thunderboomer comes along.

My top is a Kayline which pretty much stays on the jeep year-round, but the doors are easily removeable.Bestop and 4-Wheel Drive Hardware have setups called trailtops that fit the YJ's and 1976 CJ7's but no CJ5's.

Right now I'm experimenting with a cheapo plastic tarp that I could cut/modify and sew but I would prefer a more durable material and something that is a little more 'tailored'.

Anybody use one of these or can you recommend a source. Basically, just a cover to possibly cover the windshield, sides would go down to the nerf bars and back would cover the back window. Seems pretty simple. This would also have the benefit of keeping the hot sun off the upholstery during summer........thanks !!

Try Rain Gear Jeep Covers. http://www.jeepcovers.com/
I've been using one for a couple years on a '74. Great quality product. A little tough to fit on - maybe has to do with the windshield slant - but never got around to calling them to ask.

Edit - after re-reading your question not sure this would work - the Rain Gear top will fit over a bikini top, but not over a full soft top. Pretty much slants from the roll bar to the back.

Cheap tarp thing sounds like a good idea. You could cut, overlap and use contact cement to stick seams together. If it works out half way decent you could take it to a marine upholstery shop and have them copy it. Or just take the jeep there and tell them what you want. You can buy cheap grommet tools so you could put some on the bottom and use bungee cord to fasten it down.

I use a large ATV cover from menards to cover my jeep when I have the top off. The bikini top prevents the cover from sagging in the middle when full with rain. It covers everything but the bottom 4-5 inches of the door openings so the floor gets a little wet. It even comes with a little stuff sack.

Call around to a few boat shops that do canvas covers for boats. I was quoted about $125 to do a top for the summer. Bought the Rain Gear instead but wish I had bought a full top cover like your looking for.
