Here's my question: I just got a new timing light and ive never used one. If i check the timing before i remove the stock distributor and mark where the line is(the line at the pulley), can i just adjust the new distributor to line up to the same mark?

I went straight down the contact on the cap and marked #1 on the edge of the old distributor. Then rotated the crank around until the rotor lined up with the mark I made and crank was at 0deg. Don't touch the motor again until the new distributor is in and lined up to #1 again.

Ok I got the distributor in, gaped the spark plugs, installed 8mm wires. New question: On the stock coil there are 4 wires, one yellow, one blue one red hooked up to + and one black Hooked up to -. Im not sure whitch wire to use for the power, I think its the yellow one. And for the tach, I think i use the wire that was connected to the + side...anyone know for sure.:? thanks in advance:beer:

Power needs to be 12 V with the key in both the start and run position. Check your wires and see which one fits that. You do not need a resistance wire like the stock ignition.

As for the tach I don't know in the stock system which it is.

On my converted Chevy unit, red gets switched +12vdc, yellow goes to tach, and black is grounded back to the dist, which is grounded through the block, which is grounded to the neg batt post.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyy, how do you like that HEI set up? I just did the 4.0 Head Conversion on my 258 block and put in the HEI Distributer (8mm spark plug wires too)....just haven't run her yet.

Just curious how much you like it......

    Thanks! :D

Hey Boodie, that looks like the exact same distributor i got...just a different color. It seems to run smoother now. Starts right up even when cold, and it feels like maybe a bit more power....I like!:beer:
