Steel S Lines or Rubber Hoses

    Quick question. Converting to 11" brakes on front of my '71 CJ5, do I keep & use the steel S lines to conect ot wheel cylinders or change to rubber hoses:? thanks:)

    I think I'd change to rubber hoses and delete the steel S lines.

    If you just have to get away from the steel I would go with a braided line, much more protection than a rubber line but just as flexible.

    I rebent the "S" lines to fit the 11 inchers.

    When I converted to 11"ers from a 72 Waggy, I got rid of the S lines and used rubber hoses from a later (than a 56) Cj5 as the Waggy hoses were about 3" too long. See "Drilled 11" brake conversion" in the tech section.

    I'm also facing this same puzzle, my Jeep just has rubber hoses without the steel 'S' lines.
    Does anyone have any idea what the designer's reasons for using the steel 'S' lines were?
    I'm generally in favor of keeping with the original design concepts unless these were obviously flawed.

    As for myself, I decided to go this route. That way all the rest of the system will be bolt on stock
