Hi all, the attached pic is looking thru the bell inspection cover with a mirror, while I'm leaning thru the passenger side door. I know it's tough to get the perspective unless you're intimately familiar with it. My diagnosis is that the ball pivot detent on the release arm is blown out.
If you agree ... what the heck causes that?!!! I've never heard of it before!
If you don't agree w/ my diagnisis, I'd appreciate any input.

I'll add symptoms if anyone needs them but they're just the same as the dozens of clutch release probs in the archives.
I'm pretty sure I know how to fix it ... 3day weekend

... sorry, I meant to add some commentary to the pic. the "blown out" area is just to the left of the image of where the release arm engages the throwout bearing housing/coupler/retainer/whatever ... it should be semi-spherical, not, ummm, blownout and fractured in appearance (?).

It isn't that tough. Atleast for me....

I just yanked my tranny, bell housing and clutch in 2 1/2 hours.

I probably cheated some, but it isn't the end of the world to take it apart.

Something in that pix ain't right!

Yep, it ain't tough ... it took me 30 seconds to remove the fork after removing the floor panels (working alone, of course). :)

    I cheated too :)

Yep, something in the pic ain't right ... the ball pivot detent is blownout, as I mentioned originally. The additional attached pic pretty much sums it up in my mind.

Many, many, many thanks to the Mil manual for help in this matter ... and here's hoping nobody else uses a cheap $6 POS that I assume the previous owner's mechanic did

For those that makeup the 109 views of this thread here's the result of yesterday's work:
So, nobody, junk yards nor FLAPS, had a fork within several hundred miles and, I don't like disabled machines even more than I dislike not getting parts.

I took a small hammer and formed the blownout fragments into a shape that was close, Then I welded it up ... good as new. Works good. And will work good till I get a new one via freight next week.

One tip that may be of help to someone: It seemed as though it may be easy to drop the fork into the bellhousing abiss so, I tied a little string onto it so I could retreive it if neccessary. Wasn't needed but made me feel good.

good work. :) You must have a little farmer in you. They make due with what they have until the right part comes in. Should work at least till you fork gets there. I would have done the same.....because lets face it who can live without there JEEP.
