This isn't exactly mad fab skills, but rather a tiny PITA project I've been putting off. A while back I picked up some Gerry Cans to replace my 15 year old ones, but they were not exactly the same and I hadn't gotten around to dealing with the can mounts to change everything out. Problem being that the new cans had a slightly different footprint than the old ones. Well I woke up with some ambition the other day and got this as well as a few larger Jeep projects done.

Old set up with the can mounts welded to the rear bumber beam. Welding=bad idea when you later need to get at the rear center body mount (I was in a hurry to get them mounted)

Looks good! I'm curious, do you have to remove the winch to get the cans out?

Nope. You can't see it good in the other pics, but the bottom of the rack is hinged at the body and the top is pinned in with 5/16 latch type lynch pins. Pull the pins and the rack tilts back far enough to unhook the retainer straps and lift the cans out (or make easy access to the huge Packer 45 the rack carries).

I do see a smaller, lighter rear winch in my near future. That one was hard to turn down as it is in perfect working condition, has the Jeep factory special equipment tag on it and I picked it up for $150 from a guy that complained it was blocking too much air from his radiator.
