    If the trons check out.
A weak fuel pump might be the culprit. Not enough fuel to the float chamber, she runs low and dies. Fuel drains back to fuel pump repriming it then when it turns over and she starts, repeating the cycle. There are 2 valves and a diaphragm, and dirt, sand etc or old age can keep the valves from seating. A guess would be the inlet valve. Fuel filters usually are up by the carb and protect the jets and orifi from getting blocked and don't protect the pump.
Just a second opinion. Worth what you paid for it.
    Good luck

    Being a F134, it doesn't run a ballast resistor.
My thought also would be a fuel issue - the pump isn't always working or there is something in the tank that closes off the pickup stopping the fuel flow.:hurrican::coffee:

My A1 did same thing and I chased down imaginary ignition gremlins. One day as it was running fairly well I was standing next to driver's seat when it started to die, coincidentally I turned the gas cap and it immediately started running smoother. Clogged tank vent was my woe.

thanks, for the tip. I got the coil today, and will swap it this weekend to try that, then the generator is also dead, which fried the battery......so I am going to do the battery, change to a 1 wire alternator, and check the fuel pump, filter, and pickup in the tank. I have a busy weekend, Ill let you know what the outcome is.

Great News!!!!! Last night I pulled the coil and swapped in a new one($32). I pulled out the battery, generator and voltage regulator and threw them on the floor of the garage like yesterdays trash.I went on to the tech page and am fabbing a bracket for an alternator swap (probably 3-wire 10SI 63 Amp from a 1978 Camaro with AC). It runs about $45 for a refurbished from Checker Auto.

This morning I ran jumper cables off the leads to the starter and ground, sprayed some starting fluid in the carb (10 degrees in Denver today:coffee:) and VROOOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!:hurrican: She started right up then died. I forgot to pull the choke first. Cranked it again, and it is running like a champ :hurrican::driving:for about 10 minutes now! Although it is running, I am going to finish the alternator swap this weekend, I have some PO fab work to undo and repair:rofl:

The new problem I have is an exhaust leak from the manifold, so I get to replace the gasket there now. I hope it warms up soon!

Thanks for all the Tips, this is a fantastic website and everyone involved is very helpfull and some good humor too.R)

Cheers to all on this thread Have a great Christmas, or Holiday Weekend, and a few beers for the JEEP folks out there.:beer::beer::beer:::beer:

nothin like sucess to make ya happy

I caution - a new battery will run the motor for some time, even without an alt. or gen installed - it needs to re charge the sysem

but congrats on getting her going:beer::beer:
