Was wondering what others get for mileage with their rigs.

An inline 6 with 31" tires i figured out to be about 11 miles to a gallon. (that was topping off noting the odom, driving, topping off again and noting the mileage and gallons (oh and needing a tune up :) ).

Seems low giving the 15gal tank.

i know there was one place that had a 22gal upgrade tank, any takers on this? Worth the pain?

I've shared my millage before with others and they have a hard time believing it. My 1968 gets 21mpg highway at 70mph! It's taken some time to get right, but at this point my Jeepster gets better millage than my family Grand Cherokee or F150. I've taken it on many long trips for hours on end on the interstate (that will wipe you out with no power brakes and a stiff side wind!). I've got the 225 v6 with a Offy intake manifold, a comp cam, headman headers, flowmasters, pertronix ignitor ignition and holly 4bbl carb. I can show you dyno numbers with this too. It's my family trip vehicle that we take on vacation.

I have no problem believing that, wish I could get even close to that with my 304. As it is I get 10 maybe a little better if I keep it around 50.

My 71 has a 225 with 400 Turbo and 3.73 gears. The engine is rock solid. I've tuned it seven ways from Sunday, and the best I can muster, so far,is 12 mpg. I guess I'll just keep tweaking it.

There you go. With those mods. you should get the mpg. the 225 with a 4barrel yum.
If an engine can breathe it will run great. If the inline 6's are like the mopar slant 6 then the stock 1bbl is a bottle neck.
I need to see if they had a 2bbl for my motor.

I have an exhaust leak and some one grabbed me today asking if I had a diesel in the truck. Got me thinking. Has anyone done or heard of someone dropping a diesel in one of these puppies?

I have, and have a set up I am thinking about using, but I am working on putting a diesel in a Grand Cherokee at this time. I want to finish that project first.

Ya, a guy over at the AJC forum on Offroad.com is doing that. One of the local guys I deal with put a Cummins diesel in his 84 Cherokee, sounds awesome when he pulls in the driveway :D.

There were actually two diesel versions: one with the Barreiros two-litre C-65 of 65 horsepower (Spanish manufacture) and the other with the Perkins engine of 72 horsepower. These however never made it to the US, they are Spanish Jeepsters.

I've been wanting one of those for a while!

Back in '69 I put a ford 2-bbl on a dodge 225 slant six. It worked well and ran great. I found and modified a 1-bbl intake manifold to match the bores of the carb.

I see there is a 2-bbl (AMC) manifold and aftermarket 4-bbl manifolds available for the I-6 engines.

I am a long way from worring about the engine right now.

I am currently working at the Caterpillar Engine division. The smallest engine we make here weighs more than the Jeepster. Well, probably not more but just aboutas much.

has anyone thought about putting the diesel from the CRD liberty in their vehicle. I thought about putting on in my cherokee when it goes out, seems like a great engine, lots of torque!

Sure I've thought of it, but it's so impractical that I dropped that thought quickly.

Try and find one for a decent price, then figure out how to make it work and see how much $$ it 'll cost. Guessing you can buy a lot of gas for that. ;)
