Cam button- ODD (I dare not try and confuse the issue with the young lad, as they say in the Good Book: teach them the way to go in their youth; when they are old they will not stray from it")

I will admit I have been tempted recently by several VERY inexpensive running oddballs for sale locally, I just don't have the associated pieces to justify one.

Intake valve in head, exhaust valve in block = ODD. :D

See, two can play that game. ;)

If I could get away with it, I'd have one of each, an early Early 5 with the f-head and my '71 with the Dauntless.

If I had a source of decent tubs, I'd have one of each also. I know of a completely redone oddflier rolling chassis I can get, I had to chase the guy who has it away from trying to buy my tub to put on it.

I hate to flip flop but now I am really leaning to the f-head besides I have way more 134 parts anyway. Maybe someone will come up with a way to squeeze a bit more power out of the ol 134.

I've owned 3 CJs with the 134, and all were capable machines off-road. I was lucky to get 45 mph on the pavement, though. None would keep up with normal traffic. My current CJ has the V6.
If you plan on doing much city driving, having the V6 will keep you ahead of traffic!
I think it's cool to have the retro CJ with enough power to keep pace with today's vehicles. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed with the V6 swap. Good Luck!

I bought an M-38 once with a 283 chev in it, what a piece of crap. I put up with it for a few years I was really looking for an 153 cu in chev, instead I found a 225 buick V6. Easy to put in since I was already set up for a chev. all I had to do was change the pilot bushing on the V6 I had to make some changes to the left exhaust manifold to clear the ross steering. Eventually I got all the bugs out and it was great, but I wanted a jeep that had the original jeep sound with the whining jeep fan (you jeep nuts know what I mean). I now have a stock 62 CJ-5. It isnt as fast or powerful as the V6 but man it's got soul.
