I'm thinking about going back to a 76-83 CJ5. If I find what I want I'd be selling my frame and body. It also has a fuel tank, manual steering box, steering column, steering shaft, tailgate, rollbar, grill, hood, windshield frame, and possibly fenders. It has a good title but before I can get it transfered into my name the state wants to inspect the vehicle being that it has an out of state title. I'm thinking about going back to a late CJ due to it being for my woman. She really wants power steering and power brakes. I already have an almost new 2.5 in lift for a 76-83. I have a set of widetrack axles. I'll have to weld on perches on the rear to use these with my current jeep due to different rear spring spacing. I also have a late windshield frame, hood, steering column, fuel tank, 304, T176, 300, and driveshafts. The floorpan in the 75 is in need of repair in the toolbox, a few random places, and the rear has a couple of small holes. The frame appears to be straight and solid. Theres one broken weld at the very front where the crossmember that goes above the steering box. Someone has welded some tubing for side steps to the frame the drivers side front weld has come apart on these. What do you guys think this thing is worth?

    Thanks,
    John

You could check Ebay for completed listings and find one similiar to yours. Prices will vary across the country but it might give you a starting point along with folks' replies on what they paid / got for their Jeeps. For myself I'd be hesitant to buy a vehicle I wasn't sure had a clean title. In Texas and Georgia you can title it before registering / inspecting. They won't give you a registration sticker but you can put it in your name. Title it as an antique and there is no inspection necessary. Mine started out as a tub and engine- not a working part on it and I titled it before putting any more money in it beyond the car wash. I didn't want to sink a lot of money and time into a Jeep without knowing it was legally mine.

Yeah the people at the dmv are getting retarded. Alabama doesn't or at least didn't used to inspect vehicles older than 20 years. I have a bill of sale and the title from the person I bought it from but they want to inspect it for some reason being that its an out of state title. Its a TN title. I'm would rather get it in my name first anyway before I actually try to sell it. Provided I can get the title issued in my name what do you guys think I can realistically get for it? I'm not trying to make a fortune or anything. I just don't really know what a fair price for it would be. Heres some pictures which might help get a better idea.

Man oh man. How much did you pay for it? What are you expecting? If it were me, and I didn't want it, I'd be glad to get back what I paid for it.

If you can find the right buyer, you might get a few hundred. Parts cars sell for a significant discount (from free to very cheap), and the right buyer would have to have another Jeep in need of a tub or frame. No way you're going to build that into a complete Jeep without another donor.

Ok so with the hood, fenders, grill, rollbar, steering shaft, a NT dana 30 with no knuckles/brakes but with shafts and diff(3.31), drag link, tie rod, and windshield would $300 without me messing with the title be in line? What about with the title?

Even mine started out better than that and it was free. You said you have some of the parts already, which I didn't. In its current state PJ is about $12K - just so you have some idea what you are looking at. Very gratifying though the first time around the block. Since you're starting from scratch you can just add PS and power brakes. Collins Bros. in Dallas sell a power brake set-up and the forum here has discussed PS several times.

Have you checked your PMs lately? I'd like to come and look at it if you decide to sell. Do you still have the hardtop?

    Hey John,
Did you get my email? I've been meaning to give you a call. I sold the hardtop to a guy from Chattanooga from here but I don't know what his nickname is. I will only be selling this jeep if I get another one to build. I found a 76 that I'm going to look at tomorrow so I might know something soon.
