I have a 74 CJ5 and want to convert from manual steering to power. From 72 to 75 the power steering was mounted on the passenger side. I can't find brackets anywhere. Anyone know where I might find brackets?

    Thanks

    hu??? passenger side??
im planing on replacing my manual box with a tj box because it has the three bolt pattern like the manual box, so no bracket changes are needed.

What I mean by power steering is the pump. The pump is on the passenger side, the gear box is of course on the drivers side. Im looking for pump brackets.

My 73 has it located the driverside . Looks original, but have not checked. I can find you one but it might take a week or so. (Craigslist is my first parts source.)

    V8? 6?

AFAIK the 6s can be on either side, but the V8s are all on the driver's side.

:iagree:pumps can be on either side. I assume you have a 258. IF you can find the original bracket, it's easier to set it up opposite the alt and not switch these around. My 74 had alt on drivers and was drilled and tapped (like all 258 in that era) on both sides. Found passenger side bracket and it was a simple bolt on. Did not have to change timing cover, water pump or anything. Expand your search to include the whole AMC family including cars from that era.

I got a pump and bracket off ebay from a 74 AMC Gremlin. I also found one at one of the Jeep pull yards in California but they want $80 plus shipping. :? I have seen these fabbed.

    Heres a pic

I'm planing on using a complete belt setup from a late model 258 with the pump on the driver side, just to keep the hoses short and since i already have a delco alt it will be easy to switch. Some power steering pumps mount to the intake so you might have to fab something, but in my case i have the late model manifold so its a non issue.
lots of amc cars, jeep trucks, wagoneers and cjs used the 258 so it shouldn't be hard to find the brackets for the pump.
