I have a delco alternator on my 1974 CJ5 with a 304. Do I run the 2 10 guage wires that come off of it that are splice togather to the solinoid or straight to the battery? Also would I run the main power wire to my switch off these wires or run another wire off the battery or solinoid to the key?

It dosn't matter if it goes to the solenoid or the battery. I believe the factory wiring diagram shows it going to the solenoid, thats how mine is. Its probably the best way anyways since you use less wire, an in 12VDC, each foot of wire starts to decrease the load it can hold.
In my jeep, a line comes off the solenoid and goes to a fuse box. From there, there is an ignition circuit that runs to the switch. Again, will work either way, but you want it fused somehow.

Not quite sure what you are asking, so see if this helps,
Not exactly the right way to do things, but will get you up and running.

This is with an 'Idiot' or 'Warning' light, and again, not exactly the 'Right' way to do things, but will get you up and running,
This is the way the factory did most of the Delco wiring jobs,

This is with OUT a warning light.
Quick and dirty, not the 'Correct' way to do things either, but will get you up and running.

These are the 'Correct' way to wire the Delco SI series alternator,

Here is the best way to eliminate that PITA resistor wire with a common diode, Look for the part number on the diagrams above.

:iagree: It's also better to connect it to the post on the solenoid for mechanical reasons. You don't want to have more wires going to the battery posts than you need to, because of the removing and replacing, and because of corrosion issues. Electrically it doesn't matter if you connect the wires at the battery terminal end or the solenoid end.

What size inline fuse do I need to put in the wire running from the alternator to solonoid? Also should I just go from the solinoid to the battery post on the key for the main juice or just run a a splice off the wire running from the alternator to the battery post on the key.

Mine is not fused between the alternator and solenoid and I don't think I have ever seen a fuse in that location. If you wanted to put a fuse there wouldn't it need to be equal to the max output of the alternator?

Ok so the fuse would need to be from the solonoid to the key.
