I am curious on how to add a return line to an underseat fuel tank. I believe i had a second threaded hole for a second line on the tank but i plugged it up with a bolt and JB weld. I am under the impression a return line had to be going into the tank from above and not below. So is the second hole for a return line? If not how did you guys put another line to the tank?

    Thanks!

I drilled another hole in the sender and JB Welded a 1/4 steel line into the hole with about 1/2" going through the sender. [IMG]

Sorry-forgot a little info. My tank and sender is in a CJ2A. Didn't come with any hole in the sender actually. If the sender is from a 4 cyl, no return line.

My sender has no provisions for a fuel in or fuel out. Everything seems to be on the bottom of the tank. If i can plumb a fitting on that other threaded hole in the bottom i may do that to keep the fuel line out of the cab. Is there that much pressure on the return fuel line that it keeps the fuel in the tank from pushing back towards the engine?

I don't know how much pressure there is on the return. It's not really a steady stream. The FSM says that it just allows a little fuel flow to keep cool fuel in the lines for vapor lock. Don't know if trying to push it up from the bottom will work. Mine only had the 1/4" outlet for the fuel and the drain. I plugged the fuel outlet with a brass inverted flair plug. I figured the tank was in the cab, it couldn't be any worse if the fuel lines were there also. I had old pickups with tank behind the seat where the lines were in the cab.

hi dan; one of these bulkhead fittings works well. http://www.fittingsandadapters.com/bulancon3.html

i used a holley power valve gaskets on the inside and out to seal it.

as far as pressure in the return line goes. when the return line is connected i have 5 pound of fuel pressure at idle, with the line sealed off there is 7 pounds of fuel pressure at idle.

    hope this helps
