AFAIK the agressive tread tires shown in the pic linked above were used on trucks, not CJs. Certainly the J-truck was available with Goodyear tires with that tread design up through the '70s. That's very much the same as the Super Traxions shown here: http://www.universaltire.com/cart.php?target=product&product_id=24890&category_id=343

The '60s CJ came with the Suburbanites, early ones shown here http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Owners/Charnok2.html ... later they got the PolyGlas tires, no pic of those.

Thanks again for all the help, guys. That's going to give me a lot to go on. I think based on tire diameter alone I am going to have to settle on the Super Traxion. Here's some more pics, just for fun.

Here is the tire I'm trying to replicate. 6.00x16 Goodyear Suregrip:

    Here is the tread pattern:

This is the 6.00x16 tire diameter (left) compared to a 7.00x16 NDCC (right). Look at the right edge of the pic and you can see more Goodyears that look almost identical to Farfle's Courser LTs; I think they look great on his Jeep, but it doesn't appear they make the Courser in a 6.50 or 7.00 tire size:

Oops! For the sake of future searchers, my last post needs an edit. The tires that came on the jeep new were H78-15 suburbanites. The 225's mentioned were about as close as you could get in a modern size.

The courser's are a 7.00-15. You're correct Clint, the only size courser for a 16" rim is 7.50.
IMHO, the super traxion's would look great.

    If I had 16" rims I'd go with a radial in 215x85-16"
Hi-Tec retreading offers their mud terrain retread in this size. It works out to roughly 30"x8.4"-16"

Too bad nobody makes a radial 15" in an 85-series (tall sidewall relative to tread width. 85 means the sidewall height is 85% of the tread width).
