How can i calibrate my gauge, just put in a new sending unit when i did the resto. dont know if it worked before but when i have about half a tank it reads E. Basically my gauge will go from full to empty and i have actually only burnt from Full to half a tank. what can the prob be? do i just need to replace the gauge?

Could be a couple things could be resistance in the wire, could be a bad sender, could be the temp gauge (power regulater for both fuel and temp is in it), could be..... Search all the specs for the gauge and the sender are here (sorry search is blocked at work for some reason) I had the same problem.

I've got calibration problems on both my tanks. The seat tank reads F until it gets down to about a quarter, then nose dives for E. When you get to 1/2 on the gauge better be swapping tanks. The rear tank is just as bad.

Here's my action plan for next week:
    1) Pull senders (gonna be a pain on the rear tank)
    2) Get a ruler and measure how deep the tanks are
    3) Move the sending arm to simulate "E" then read sender resistance with my meter
    4) Move it all the way up and read check resistance there.
    5) Bend arm to see if that will center it up.

I've got a adjustable resistor that I'm going to use to ground the gauge wire to see what number of ohms makes the gauge read E, 1/2, and F. Thinking the resistance range for the gauges and units doesn't match.

Pull the sender and bend the float rod. If the sweep is larger than the tank is deep shorten the rod. Or figure the sweep in relation to your gage and just know that at a 1/2 tank on the gage you only have a 1/4 tank, or whatever. There is no electrical adjustment. Or as stated add a resistor (too complicated for me;))

the gauge has an adjustment in the rear of the housing. it has to be removed from the speedometer housing to get to it. the best way to adjust would be to find the full and empty positions of the sender and wire it up on your workbench.

there are 2, one is the voltage regulator. I don't have one in front of me, I'll look tonight.

sorry for the necro-post, but here goes nothing...

I am having issues with my gauge/sending unit. installed a new tank and sending unit, but, it shows I have no gas in the tank, even with the sending unit held in the full position...do I have a bad gauge? I used the mini 12 circuit wire kit and used the fuel sending line in that bundle also if it makes a difference...

When you are holding the sending unit (not mounted in tank) do you have a ground wire connected to it??

Did you ground the sender power wire to see if gauge swings to full?
