I recently obtained a pair of windshield hood rests that mount over the wipers on my '62 CJ-5. I have the footmans loop on the hood to tie the windshield down but have no idea where to put a strap on the windshield. There is one welded on loop on the inside. It sits at about a 45 degree angle - off center toward the drivers side. This doesn't seem like the right place. There are some small holes on the inside that are on the center line. Was there some type of loop attached here? A picture would really help. Also, where is a good place to get a strap? How long should it be? Thanks.

My footman loop is on te inside of the windshield frame. My original loop i believe was angled like that, but aftermarket frames dont even come with loops but they are drilled so you can get a loop and screw it on. I got a 1/2 inch wide canvas strap from a buddy. It was a military strap and it works perfectly to hold the windshield down. It had a metal end that you ran the strap through to hold it tight.

The frame on my '60's windshield also has the angled loop.:)

Where did you obtain the standoffs that go over the wipers? R)

I got the standoffs from Midwest Military - phone (952) 440-8778. They come as a kit. You have to paint them and attach the webbing with supplied rivits. Here is the address of the website page - toward the bottom:

Thanks for the pics WYOMIKE. The 71's have wipers on the bottom and standoffs on the hood but I do have some sheet metal screw size holes where yours has a footmans loop. So that must be the way it was done in '62 as well.

I would still like to see a good photo of a stock strap / buckles so I can come up with something that is somewhat realistic for a '62

Call Beachwood Canvas and ask for Rich. I know they'll have the straps and loops, and he might be able to help with the correct info.

Back in a minute fellas! I'll go shoot mine; the only diff will be the color of the strap.

The original strap on ours looked like OD green dyed black. I used a strap off a piece of cheap luggage. I bought the quarter-turn fasteners at a leather and tack shop. The original fastener was black. One end of the strap is a sewn loop. I just burned and smoothed the free end. I think originally the free end had a metal piece covering the end of the canvas. Guess it's been a while; more diffs than I remembered.
