 Please don't install that! Leaf springs aren't meant to be welded for repair. You need a new one or a complete new set. It broke once, it will break again!

Your correct Glenn. Friendx the word spring means flex. Welds don't flex, that's why it will break again at your (solder?) weld. DON'T DO IT.

Nice "solder" job. Ha! I usually hear that one the other way around:
"How do I weld my wires together"?

That is the main leaf you welded. Not good. If you had the entire blacksmith's forge, and about 100 years of knowledge experience you could repair it.

Run it if you want. It ain't gonna last long.
    Go buy a spring.

Yes, by solder he means weld. I believe French is his 1st language so let's go easy here.

x2 on all replies, every one has said it well, first time the spring trys to flex the weld wont and it will break out right beside the weld, not a good idea at all, unless you were stranded and that was the only way to get home, doubt there would be a welder handy in that situation

One more time, I apology for my poor English, in French, to solder and to weld is the same.
I am talking about a leaf spring mounted on a 65 cj5 that i use it 5 miles a week, so it'is not a big problem if the spring is broken again.
I use my car one month with the spring broken.
That rear leaf spring is a 13 springs mounting so if one is broken, there is still the others.
I agree with you that it's not very nice, but it's very difficult in France to get parts of this vehicle.
I have to order the parts in US and the shipping is so expensive.

necessity is the mother of invention. Maybe "rigging" in this case.

In this case, I say go for it, you have little to lose.
The trick is to keep the mend from flexing. Maybe add a piece of steel on top to sandwitch the thing?

13 leaves, just like mine. I have a spare set.... if shipping were not outragous, I would GIVE you one.

I got to thinking about your situation also, was wondering if it would work to fabricate two "U" straps to put front and back (as close to center as possible) and strap them around all leafs. This would help stop the flex past the u-strap from getting to the weld (solder). Any suggestions on this approach?

Just go to a spring shop and have them make you up a new main leaf or find an old spring pack from another Jeep and swap in the entire spring or the main leaf.

That spring won't be much of a spring after you get it hot enough to weld, it will just become another piece of scrap steel. I see a new pair of leaf springs in your future...

I'm assuming you are in Europe. Jeeps are very simple machines, I would look around for a spring from an older European vehicle that might be made to work. Do you have recycling yards in Europe?
Your repair won't last very long, I would start looking for something that would work, failing that, you're gonna have to bite the bullit and pay the shipping. Look at it as part of the price of owning a unique American vehicle in Europe.
I've owned some pretty unique European vehicles here in the US in the past, and parts were always big money. Such is life.

Last resort, you could always sell the Jeep, and get a Trablant!

Wouldn't Mahindra & Mahindra have that kind of stuff? India would be closer as far as shipping distance is concerned.
