My solenoid is mounted on firewall by the p.o. when converted to 12 volt.
It has a button on top, which when depressed turns over the motor.
Always wondered about said button, must have only depressed it before when the wires were unhooked and not like this time when jeep was in gear.
Anyway after the intial shock had wore off and the cursing that followed tire caressing foot, thinking cap was applied and I cannot recall seeing a solenoid with a push button switch before, have you?

Yes, but it's been years since I've seen another one. My Jeep had a 6v unit in it when I bought it and I tried to find a 12v replacement for it to no avail.

We don't need no stinking buttons. We have screwdrivers.

But I really want a button now. Way classy.

There was one in my 67 CJ5 V6 Jeep that some previous owner had pulled out and put an f4 in. There were actually 2 solenoids on the firewall. Of course only one was hooked up, but it had a button on the bottom. Pretty nifty, came in handy every once in a while when setting timing or valves or whatever. Gotta be careful though!! I went to a v6 but still have the solenoid somewhere. Got a pic of yours? I'll try to pull mine out...

I still have the 6v one that was used on the Meyer plow lift. Don't think I've seen a 12v unit, I'd check HD truck parts or snow plow supplier I guess.

Rather than a button on the relay, I'd suggest you make a remote starter switch from a couple of big clips, wire, and a push button. Clip from the big battery-side post to the small "S" terminal. Same thing as the button, safer, more flexible (you can stand out of the way or on the other side) and you can keep it with your tools.

:iagree: serves the same function makes one less thing to fail on the soleniod. Does not need to be a high current switch either you are on the low current circuit part anyway.

I have one mounted on the solenoid on top of my starter that the PO had put in. I thought it was normal. But I made the same mistake of "bumping the engine over" for TDC and forgot to take it out of gear.
