But one I absolutly love R)
( I didn't know where to post this but I need help here. I'm pretty sure it's off topic so thats where I post it. If it's not could someone be so kind as to move it for me? Thanks!!)
As you may know I'm getting into Jeeping, so on. Deciding what's best, so on again. I found a 47 Flattie I'm gonna look at monday for 750. All there, partially disassembled, not sure how bad.

I need to really stop buying the parts for a Jeep and buy a full Jeep

    First it started with this....
    $100 TJ D44
    [IMG]

And now this...Just today a $35 F-134 I believe (I hope...). It's for me to learn on how to rebuild it, it's got poor compression, a lot of sand in the oil fill (looks like a playground) and is "loose" but for $35 and a leanrer, let it hurt.

This raises a Q. What are my specs on this (He was told it's out of an M38, and the origonal owner is still alive and going to email me!! :DD) meaning where can I find them? Where's my source for the needed parts to rebuild it (Gaskets for carb and motor, new bearings, a distributor, plug wires, some hardware, and a place to clean my starter and alternator which came with) and for tests on electronics? How do I clean it? De-greaser and a nylon brush I think, and then take it apart and pressure wash the block? And where can I find a manual for it?

Thanks everyone, I love learning about this stuff and would rather do it on my own with ya'lls help then learn it from a half drunk teacher at school who started his life as a chop shop owner (which is really what the class is about still, no lies)

    Thanks!
    -Sammy

    Just empty every pocket.

I could mention a few things. I don't know much.
flat fenders are cool, go for it. However!

The F head doesn't "fit" the flat fender. It is too tall.
Do your research, decide what your goal is. Oh, and buy a bible, the Jeep bible that is. Amazon probably has a copy. A great read.

I am not sure what you are going to do with the rear axle. Probably can be made to work, but is it necessary? Again, what is the goal?

A fully restored 47 would in my book be a work of art.

If you are going to lift it, lock it, load it, change everything then go with newer metal. Gives more options, and you can still call it a "jeep".

Thanks, I'll be sure to check out the website.
JEEP. Yep, I've heard that one. I don't plan to drop it in a flattie, heck I want the Go-Devil! My goal with this is to get it running and to learn on it, learn how to rebuild it, so on. And then start it on the engine stand, then I guess "winterize" it and keep it covered, I'm thinking somewhere when I'm 60 I'll build a buggy with it.
My goal right now is the flattie, but I may be getting the flattie and a CJ7, both DD's. My dad will take the 47 more so, and I'll have a 7 for the fun stuff.
I'm in love with the bible! I got it a couple weeks ago at B&N and cannot set it down!

My main goal now is to get the F Head running, and get the Flattie and maybe the CJ7. But mainly right now just the F Head.

    Thanks!

I do not know what you intentions are with the TJ 44 but I would sell it. You could probably get between 500-800 for it. TJ guys with a D35 are always looking for those, so just a thought.

I would definitely recommend starting off with a running Jeep of the year of your choice the front axel looks like it is from a newer Jeep and the F4 is the engine of my choice but mine was missing the starter motor. And if I had known that they are unavailable. I would have not pay the $300 he was asking luckily Willys works in Tucson. Accidentally found one, otherwise, the only other one. Available in Arizona was in Phoenix, and he wanted $270 The motor I had purchased had been stripped of just about everything else except the carburetor. But it had been re-built recently, and after replacing the coil, alternator upgrade, clutch and other miscellaneous parts
I have a beautifully smooth running engine, but you can get a decent running Jeep form between $2,000-$4,000 at $4,000. It should be in very good condition. Oh and get the large bottle of fast Orange. It cleans the grease off your hands, relatively easily. You'll need it! best wishes

Sorry, at closer look the axle you have is a rear. I'm not familiar with the newer models, but I do know you would have to find a front axle with the same gear ratio

So what are the plans for the rear axle. The bolt pattern is different from a CJ so are you going to redrill for 5 on 5.5?

And a centered pumpkin as well, which means a Tcase swap.

Guess I don't see the big advantage of a TJ D44 when there's a good chance you'll get a rear D44 inherently with an ECJ...

    All's appreciated, everyone, thanks!!
    I got the TJ44 when I was thinking I wanted a TJ...LOL but then I found out my budget's 10,000, saw that TJ's are 9G and was like...Yeehaw a bumper.
So, I went older. Now I just have the axle around for a rainy day of buggy building possible
The flattie if I buy it will sit and over time get restored, leaving me still w/o a first vehicle. My dad's still kinda hinting at a 7 or a Cherokee. So I need to really figure myself out.:oops: I just wanted to know auto parts for that Fhead. Do they have rebuild kits for cheaper than piecing it all together? Thanks!
