Getting a replacement knuckle for my D27. Is a two hole steering arm knuckle compatible with my one hole knuckle? i.e.: will the steering bolt up the same way?

    thanks

IIRC, swapping to a two-hole D27 knuckle has been done here a number of times, and is a good idea for using the later one-piece tie rod set up.
An added benefit is that when combined with a suspension lift it helps to reduce bump steer by keeping the drag link higher than the Commando style set up ( Commando style is the TRE with a hole for the drag link)

What are the differences? Does anyone have pictures of the two hole?

The only real difference is that the arm is about 2" longer and has a 2nd hole in it just like a standard open knuckle would have on a dana 30. This allows you to run a single tie rod from one side to another and then a drag link to the bellcrank or saginaw box depending on your steering box choice. We are installing one on firefightermikes jeep saturday, we will take pics. This setup helps with maintaining toe in when hitting a bump, it also helps with bump steer when a lift is installed.

I know there is at least one that won't work, 'cause I have one. I don't know what it came off of, but the angle on the steering arm is way off and wouldn't work on my old 27.

I know that the one I got from a closed knuckle 44 (jeep truck) won't work. The ones from the wagoneers with closed dana 30's work.

Which do these usually come off of - Wagoneer 27s and 30s? If so, you should be able to find one of those for cheap or free if you ask around on Willystech, IFSJA, etc. They are a throwaway axle for anything other than the original application.

i did this conversion last fall and it was one of the best mods i've done so far. it not only cured my bump steer, but also greatly reduced my steering effort. next best thing to power steering. i got my knuckle off ebay and made new steering linkage with parts from m.o.r.e. off road.

If you don't find one call Paul at R&P at 503-557-8911. He's got a couple on the shelf. Think he gets about $30 for one plus shipping. Nickmil
