I'm trying to remove the forward shift housing from my transfer case (T18. The housing is free, but the shift dog is keeping my from being able to remove the housing. Any ideas how to remove it? I'm trying to replace the gaskets, and can't get a new one on without removing the shift shaft and dog.

The T18 transfer case. I'm probably using bad terminology.

The shift housing has two shafts that go into the main body of the transfer case. One of them is longer than the other, and has a lever that slides the gears back and forth. I can't remove the housing without removing that lever from the shaft, or somehow removing that shaft from the housing.
