It's been a while - what's the usual OP gauge behavior on a stock '75? Does the gauge go to zero when the key is off?

I have a dead stock 75 with the 232 and 47,000 orig. miles. The OP guage on mine goes down to 0 when the key is off, hovers around 40 or so at idle and between 40 and 60 under normal driving. Hope that helps.

    Tim,

On my 304 it goes to zero shortly after engine shut down, maybe a second or two. As for the rest you already know.

    Agreed, down to zero.

With a new oil pump that doesn't have a stuck relief valve mine goes to over 60+ driving.

Of course before I changed the pump it would peg and make my oil filter explode. R)
(Tim, I believe you were also one of several that correctly diagnosed the problem.)

Maybe it's time to trade in that beetle/golf/schwimminwagon thingy for something a little more vintage! Take the train to work!
