do you really have to remove the transmission to remove the clutch?
This seems to be out of my ability
I only have my driveway to work in and dont have a floor jack or enough jack stands
my tools are limited to the average home owner
I dont want to spend the money to have it fixed by a pro, that can be costly
The other option is to sell the CJ, that runs good now and wait for a good working CJ to come around
What do you think is the best way to handle the removal?
    Thanks for the help

It's either drop the tranny or pull the engine:rofl:

It's probably easier to pull the engine anyhow, thats what I usually do. If you havn't done it before schedule a long weekend for the job.

If you are going to own a jeep you either have to buy tools and work on it or have the $$ too have it done for you.

Honestly working on it is the point for alot of us its our hobby.:)
Its the pride and sence of accomplishment that only comes from getting in there and fixxing it.

The saying is, You build a jeep, you dont buy it,

No truer words where ever spoken about a jeep.

Jeez James, see if Bill can help ya out! I'm sure he's got all the tools needed, and Lord knows how many times he's done that. He seems to go through more Jeeps than I do sneakers.

Do the clutch rebuild kits have everything I need or is there something I should look out for
    Who makes the best kit?
I see they go for under 200.00

Can be done in a driveway, no special tools needed. A good floor jack or, even better, a tranny jack can be borrowed or rented. Sorry, but yes you do have to remove the transmission, also the transfer case, driveshafts disconnected, and the bell housing (doesn't have the dust pan on the bottom like SBCs). Your kit will probably come w/ a clutch centering tool, if not I'm sure someone here has one that'll work nearby. Centerforce makes the best kit (IMO). It's pricey. Otherwise I'd just go stock. The job is a pretty good intro to CJs and doing it would be fairly easy for the novice and will teach you a lot about your rig. Just ask, we help.:v6:
