Can anyone help decode the casting numbers off this transmission? I am in dire need to replace the ailing T86 in my 1968 :v6: . I was given the phone number of a gentleman that has the drivetrain out of a '69 :v6: , but he doesn't know what the transmission or TC happens to be (he has no digital camera either). I didn't recognize :? the casting numbers:

    Trans: Dana 018-15-24-8
    TC: 309001-13 and 5359314

    Thanks in advance.

Something is not right cause the one you list as a transmission has a dana logo on it and thats off of a transfercase not a transmission and the numbers are listed that way. He also does not have the numbers on what you have as the transfercase right those are casting numbers nottransmission model numbers.

If its out of a v6 early jeep It should work. If its a 3 speed sincro first its a T14 and if its not sincro its a t86. The 14 would be a good up grade.

Sadly, the man is totally clueless and has no idea what he has. I guess it means I get to take a two hour trip to go find out. I've been looking for a T-14 to, but the only one I've found thus far is rebuilt minus the shift tower, and I have no idea if the T86 shifter interchanges.

The T-86 shifter does not interchange with the T-14. R&P can supply you with a T-14 shifter if needed or a complete rebuilt tranny if you can't find a used one. They can be reached at 503-557-8911. Nickmil

The 535xxxx number is a Jeep P/N. Just guessing, if that's really the TC I'd bet it's a 20, since a D18 should have a 9xxxxx number (typical for the era). The Jeep PN should only appear on a tag, and the tags have the trans type stamped into them (maybe not on the TCs though). A typical tag will have a Jeep PN, Borg-Warner PN, and the descriptor ie "T-14A"

My guess is that the seller has the trans and TC numbers backwards, and that he's got a Dana 18 with a late 60s trans, either T-86 or T-14.

Thanks for the help guys. I called R&P and went ahead and ordered the T14 shift tower. I will go ahead and use the rebuilt T14, and send Herm some money for the overdrive.
