While crawling around under the Jeep checking on the oil leak, I found out that my drivers side rear shock was no longer attached to the axle...this might explain the pull when I brake? My question's are:
    1) How bad is it to drive with it this way
    2) Can I just replace that one shock ($$$ is low :( )
I eventually want to put a small lift on the Jeep, but now is not the time. Any help is appreciated.

I doubt it would have much effect on your rig pulling during braking.
It looks like you need a new spring plate.

If you want, I am almost 100% positive I have one of those spring plates with the shock mount still attached from before my Wrangler spring conversion. It's yours if you give me your address.

No problem replacing 1 shock - you could even use a used shock in a pinch. Not ideal, but not dangerous either.

That shock plate have a threaded hole for the shock mounting stud? That and the shock may be all you need.

Wow, it's been awhile since I asked this question. I just bought a new shock and yes I need a mounting stud. (Maybe I could just use some duct tape...:) ) Where can I go to get one- or does it really matter? The plate looks good, but I need to check it out again, just in case. Thanks for the help.

You can just cut the head off a bolt and weld it there if you like.
