    Re: CJ5 with 225 Buick V6

Hello, I also own a CJ5 with the 225 Buick V6. I'm looking for a replacement carburetor, does anyone have advice on the best place to find one?

    Thanks

    Welcome from Kansas!

Is your carburetor beyond rebuilding or missing or???

NAPA and Partsamerica both carry them. Though the quality of the reman units can be questionable and a hassle at times. If you have an option I'd rebuild or have it rebuilt before buying one.

Other option might be to post a wanted to buy ad in the classifieds section here.

Hello, i bought a rebuilt 2G from TOMCO.found them on the internet .there are not many carb. rebuilders left i have been told.TOMCO has been around a long time.the reason I bought a rebuilt was the accelarator pump circuit was beyond repair.the carb. i recieved works fine.they are rather pricey thou.I have a 2GC off a 68 jeepster w/ auto choke i am hoping to rebuild and put on later so i can get rid of the choke cable.Anyone have any success with the 390 Holly's for a alternate??

Used the Holley 390 and now the TA 470. Do a search for both and you should get lots of hits.

I use a Holley 390 Economaster with an Offy manifold on mine, works great. But you can get 2G's almost anywhere, very common carb

yeah, it was a very common carb. a decent junkyard with 70s era engines should have them. my 69 malibu had one on it as well.

    Strider380 Can I have a zip tie?

I bought a carb for my 258 from advance auto, which is comparable to autozone. I know its a different engine, but quality wise, the first one I got had a leaky float already in it. They exchanged it and the second one works fine. It floods out alot when rock crawling but I consider that normal, and a few taps of the skinny pedal will clear it right out.

Be careful, the V8 2Gs are not the same as our V6 2Gs. Just FYI.

You should take Sparky's caution to heart here. I think I purchased 3 or 4 different core carbs on eBay, before I got the right one. Of course, then I decided to go with a Motorcraft 2100 instead. :D

What did you have to adapt to run the 2100? What year/ venturi size did you go with?

I've had my almost stock RII about 1 year now. During my first few months of ownership, it stumbled and almost died when I pushed hard on the gas. I knew it needed an accelerator pump. I carefully installed a new carb kit and float, cleaned all parts, dried everything with compressed air and made sure the linkages were aligned and adjusted per the spec sheet. I did have to grind a small amount of material from the choke butterfly so it would close completely.
It runs just fine now with smooth power from idle to top speed. I have no complaints with its drivability or performance. R) It makes me wonder why some folks put a V8 in these vehicles.
Don't discount the factory carb - that's my only point. If you have a complete stock carb, try overhauling it before converting to something different.
    Good luck! :)
