If you don't have a torch, walmart sells cans of freezing spray to help loosen rust/stuck bolts. I haven't tried the stuff yet, but I did buy a can just incase. The nice thing about the freeze is you wan't damage anything surrounding the rusted bolt like you would with heat. In theory the freeze should work and if you don't have room to use heat, it might be your only choice.

I am guessing that this isn't the last we will hear from StraightToPlaid about his front end. Karnak says there will be a pool of 90w on the ground just inside the foot print of his front tires, if he is able to pull the plug. The question will then be why did it happen and how does everyone else grease the front end. That will lead us to the Knuckle Pudding threads. Then the debate on how the upper king pin is to get lubbed because the 90w is slung by the turning of the axle/ujoint and the pudding is too thick. That will lead to the excellent thread on adding a grease zirk to the upper king pin. Not to mention the replacement of the felt knuckle seal and inner axle seal. Bleeding the brakes and adjusting them and the merits of a Disk upgrade since it will be on jack stands for a couple of days.
    Did I miss anything? :coffee:
Not that I like them but since its Up maybe a locker on the front, ??
Oh since the king pin bearings are probably shot or at least due removal and cleaning, relubing and reloading, the front bearing should be repacked too,
the knuckle is then essentialy uninstalled. Take it to a vise and remove the plug while its easy to get to, try a brass plug one as a replacement to avoid the binding this time.

Its a great hobby and this little project is likely to keep you out of the bars for a couple of nights. At the price of beer and gas this little endeavor will literally pay for it self. R)

An old trick with pipe plugs is to heat up the plug with a torch and then "quench" the plug with a thin stream of water until cool. Do this several times then use penetrating oil. The expansion and contraction helps break the bond between the plug and surrounding material. Only way we can get oil galley plugs out of some SBC blocks without causing damage. Nickmil

Another trick to get bolts un-stuck is heat and beeswax. I use it all the time on steamships. Get it hot and jam the chunk of beeswax in it. The heat melts the wax, it pours into the joint and then burns away leaving a small gap. The gap is only as big as it was originally. It's very reliable. I use it after soaking it in PB Blaster and whacking it doesn't work.

just a thought, this is a 1971 model? should have a spicer axel,it has a u-joint,and unless it is worn out, there is no reason to be in there in the first place, pre lubed @ the factory, dont think you even run 90 weight on these

Sure you do, something has to lube the kingpin bearings. Oh and my joints were not sealed ones on my 71 model.

The u-joints don't have a seal on them when used internally like that. That way the oil can get into the needle bearings. Packing the kingpin bearings is definitely the way to go even when using oil in the knuckle.
