    Dana 20 is a transfer case - you mean Dana 30? Yes, it's a 30. Standard 3.54s with 4.10s optional.

Most are 3-speeds, the Tremac T-150, but some are wide-ratio T-18s.

For your part, the usual suspects - Novak, Herm, R&P, Walcks and the other Jeep specialists. I'd expect parts are easy, since it's Ford transmission made under contract for Jeep by Tremac. If you have a broken gear, it's probably cheaper to find a used transmission and freshen it up.

is there a way i can find out wether it was a t150 or t18? the trans is out, the one he said that was in it was larger in size than another transmission he bought to go in it. later finding out the smaller one wouldent work..probbly meaning that there was a t-18 in it? correct? i just need to know which one to buy used so it will work with the shafts that are with the jeep, thanks

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

    T-15 = 3 speed manual
    T-18 = 4 speed manual
F = 3 speed manual, going by the VIN

Also, J5 says 1975, so a T-15 would be correct if the VIN is right, not a T-150 (as for a '77).

i was kind of thinking that t-15 was the same as t-150 i guess its not , so both of you agree that its a 75 with a t-15 3 speed? it has disc brakes though and no power steering,
i had a 75 not too long ago that was drum brakes in the front and no power steering.
and i had a 77 that had discs and power steering, thats why im confused
i see here and there that theres lots of transmisisons i can get for decent prices used, but what year jeeps have the one i need? most people are just saying that there selling " a standard 3 speed tranmission out of a cj, was it a different trans for the v6's?

The VIN says '75. If it's a '75, then it came with a Borg-Warner T-15 and 304 V8 ("H" in the VIN). Power steering was optional from 1972 on. A '75 would have drum brakes from the factory.

T-15: Borg-Warner, T-150: Tremac (but a Ford design). The only thing they share is the numbers in the names.

VINs sometimes get moved to other vehicles - not legal, but it happens. Look at the frame and see if it's open channel or boxed. Boxing started in 1976. Also, the frame widens at the rear starting in '76. Before that, the rails are parallel, front to back.

must hav had a engine swap, its a 360 for sure, and apparently a 1975. also with a disc brake conversion.
i guess i need go go look at the frame like you said, and get pics of the trans that apparently came out of it... so i can make a decision of wether to buy it or not, hes asking 1000 im not gona pay over 700 so far, no trans in it, needs new ring and pinion also and im hoping the tranasfer is good and clutch

i have some catalogs and none say anything about a t-15, it has a identification chart for cj manual transmissions and it has t-18 and t-150 it says the t-150 was used 76-79 and the t-18 was used 72-79 is the t15 rare or something?

Just as a side question, could the tub have been swapped out at some point? That may explain the discrepancy on the VIN vs engine/tranny?

No, not rare. The catalogs only list what they have for sale (or want to sell).

It was used in quite a few Jeep vehicles... it was the standard transmission for full-size Jeeps from 1971-79.
