SM420 Transmission Crossmember (was "70cj5")

I need some suggestions.

The 1970 Cj5 has a sm420 with the dana 300, just put it in! The problem is I cant find a crossmember to match up, and Im thinking I might have to make one, but the shop doesnt have a tube bender. Does anyone have any ideas or know anyone that can help me out.

I've built many out of square or rectangle tubing. Good and strong and don't need a bender. Nickmil

Goobers avatar is a pic of the CJ5 that I 'm referring to, thats why he said that! Goober decided he didnt want to finish it so he gave it to his dad and me..... His dad didnt want him make the crossmember out of square tubing, I guess he doesnt think it will work!

 

Here’re some pics of the one Beer Drink’n Buddy and I made from 4”X1 ¾”X ¼” C-Channel.
A little cutting here, some bending there, fill the gaps with weld and SHUBAM, bullet proof cross member.

I found this thread on the Pirate board that had lots of examples of how folks made their crossmembers.
CAUTION! The Pirate Board is punctuated with explicit language!!!

 

I'm modifying the skid plate / cross member built by the PO of my /SM465 I put in my '73. It is basically flat 3/8 with 2X3 square tubing welded across the plate to mount the trans to. I'll post pic's when I get a chance.
