I have a 65 CJ5 with a 231 V6 and a set of Pacesetter headers. The mufflers exit in front of the rear tires. Promblem is they are way to loud! I don't know what type they are but I'm wanting to replace them. Does anyone have any suggestions on some that will tone it down?

3 chamber Flowmaster. Good sound and not to loud.
Or just reroute the exhaust out the back.

loose the headers, put a single exhaust on it off of cast iron manifolds :)

I went from glass pack bullet mufflers to a turbo bullet muffler on my 360 with fenderwell headers. Still very loud but better.

Headers aren't as much a problem as the muffler I don't think.

You can have manifolds and loud mufflers...

Guess the joke wasn't as obvious as I thought, my bad. I run headers on both my jeeps. My green one is very quiet with inside the frame headers, dual exhaust, turbo mufflers and tail pipes out the sides in the very back of the jeep. Inside the frame rails it is very easy to tuck the exhaust up in out of harms way.

The black one on the other hand with fender well outlet headers is hopelessly loud. I don't think that a fender well header is going to be quiet with any muffler as there is no room for tail pipe. Unless you put it between the tire and the frame out the back of the jeep. Not sure I would like that set up.

Even with the fender well header and muffler right up against the bottom of the tub I managed to catch a rock as I came off it with the front tire. Caved in one of the tubes on the header. Guess I am just starting to cop attitude against fender well outlet headers. Would much rather have a nice rock slider right there.

manifolds will quiten it down some but not a whole lot, what you need is a muffler with at least 3 different baffels in it,the more the baffels the quieter,or the longer the muffler, you can get away with 2 baffels if it is longer
